In the far cosmos, an alien civilization suffers an energy crisis and scans the universe for possible solutions. Once a new form of energy or fuel has been detected, an android is sent to investigate further. One is sent to Earth to investigate the rumors of a new form of fuel propulsion developed by a Romanian school professor who has built a spacecraft out of scrap. The Professor's purpose is to send the craft on a two million year long journey into deep space and then artificially induce the birth of a new human, who together with its robot carer and an archive of carefully chosen scientific and cultural knowledge, will develop into the perfect human. The film follows the android as it attempts to separate truth from fantasy.

The relatively few lines of dialogue in this movie can easily be translated by a Romanian-understanding friend.

Gopo (the late director of this movie), directed and hand-animated many thoughtful short, medium and full-fledged movies. Comedie Fantastica is in my opinion his best in the third category. Though in Romania Gopo's movies and cartoons were considered stuff to be seen only by kids, the majority of his work is deep, thought-provoking while still preserving a surface of innocence.

In this feature, a cyborg is built, programmed and sent back through time from some indefinite future (by extremely evolved humans or by some aliens after the destruction of human civilisation - it's not very clear), with the mission to find out the details of the first experiment in in-vitro human development, on board of an Earth-orbiting, completely automatized satellite.

This movie is an example of a sci-fi story told with very few special fx, but achieving a maximum of impact through sound effects and mastery of the cut scene.

I was surprised when I read here that it was not translated even though many other (more political), Romanian films were.
