Sort of what a run-of-the mill piece of anime might look like, if it was filmed completely by live actors. There's a ridiculously overstuffed plot, with maybe sixteen different threads (well, I'm exaggerating, but there's a lot.) There's the tendency towards operatic moments, with everything whipped up to a melodramatic froth. There's an unfortunate tendency towards cutesiness. Etc. Another way to think of it is that this is the really dull sequel to STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, which wasn't all that hot to begin with.
Really nice effects for the time, and not a bad cast in the supporting roles: Charlton Heston, Jack Palance, and Peter Boyle. Unfortunately Tim Matheson and the guy who played Parker Lewis on "Parker Lewis can't lose".
