A man bursts into consciousness, disoriented and confused. He drags himself from a pool and into a house, trying to get a sense of where he is. He discovers sympathy cards on a mantle for the death of a man named Max. The man catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror. He realizes that he is the man referred to in the cards - he is Max. Is he dead? Is he in a dream? His wife enters the room and warns him to stay in their home; he cannot be seen. As Max struggles to regain his memory, a man named Batter contacts him. Batter reveals a mind-blowing truth: Max is from a parallel universe. Now Max must discover the reason for his return. Batter works with him to help him recover his memory. Slowly, Max realizes that he has broken a sacred rule of law from his own world. Much to the dismay of his wife, he was overcome with a forbidden desire and made contact with someone he should not have. In the process, he has unwittingly made his existence known to a nefarious government physicist, who wants to get information from Max about his parallel world. Now the lives of those Max has touched have been terribly affected. Max must struggle to repair the damaged lives of those he loves before the dangerous government agency destroys them and prevents him from returning home.

INVERSE is one of those indie science fiction films with big ideas and a tiny budget. This one's about parallel universes and the like in theory, but in practice it just consists of a couple of characters on screen at any given time. Conversation not only propels the story but is the only part of the story. The main bald protagonist is bland and the supporting players don't get much of a look in either, leaving this entirely dull.
